Hard disc problem? Maxtor SATA drive...
I have a self built pc here at home, I am using an Asus a7n8x deluxe m/b
with AMD Barton 2500 cpu, with a Maxtor 120gb SATA h/d and 512mb Crucial ram (DDR). This pc has been working fine for about six months, then about a month ago I got a hard disc error, which said files were corrupt and windows would not load at all (even in safe mode). Eventually I tracked the problem down, it appeared that the fault was a hard disk fault. Using The Maxtor Powermax disc utility program, this initially showed the hard disk as passing the first (quick) tests, then the program said I should carry out a *full* test. This full test lasts for about an hour and when it eventually stopped, it reported an error, and offered to fix the error. I let it fix the error, and everything then appeared to be back to normal. The pc has worked fine since then, but once again when I booted the pc today, I got another error message, saying that windows system file is missing or corrupt? I'm running the Powermax utility again as I write this (on my other pc) and hopefully that will cure the problem, but... Has anyone else had a similar problem? do you know what causes the problem? is it worth looking for new drivers for the m/b or h/d? Thanx for any help you can give... *Peter* |

If your drive is still in warrantee, contact Maxtor or the store where you bought it. If not in warrantee, start shopping for a new drive. The problem will get worse. The number of bad sectors will increase. PWY |
