Default Asus PC-DL - VGA-card problems.

Hi guys.

I recently bought an Asus PC-DL motherboard and two Xeon 3.06 GHz (FSB: 533,
L2 Cache: 512) processors.

I have a problem when using a high-end vga-card in the system. When I set up
the system, I used a low-end GeForce FX 5200 VGA-card in the system. It
worked flawlessly. I installed Windows XP Pro and everything worked like a
charm.

However, being unhappy with the performance of the GeForce FX 5200, I bought
a newer vga-card: A Gainward GeForce FX 5900. When I installed this new
high-end vga-card, the system would not boot or even POST. I don't get any
beeps from the system speaker during POST, no signal on screen, no nothing.
The cpu-fans power up along with the fans in my case, but then the system
simply stops. No post, no beep(s), no signal on the monitor. And yes, I did
remember to connect the vga-card directly to the PSU (molex-cord) and
connect the card to my monitor. :-)

Baffled by this behavior, I borrowed and installed my friend's Asus GeForce
4 4600 TI. The system still did not return any signal to the monitor, but
this time the system did POST and I heard the single "everything-is-fine"
beep from the system speaker. So the POST was carried out succesfully
(without any signal on screen), but I still did not get any signal on my
monitor.

So I'm stuck. The system works fine with the low-end GeForce FX 5200 (I'm
using it right now to write this message), but it does not work with the
high-end GeForce FX 5900 or GeForce 4 4600 TI. Any hints or ideas?

My system.
Asus PC-DL motherboard (BIOS: 1007)
2x Xeon 3.06 GHz processors
512 MB PQI PC2700 DRAM.
Antec Truepower 550W 12VEPS PSU.
Harddiscs, cd-rom drives and so on...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Voller.

P.S.: Sorry for bad grammar and/or spelling. English is not my primary
language.

Also I assume you're talking about the clock speed on the graphics card
(as
the system runs fine with an FX5200), how on earth is he going to change
the
clock freq. if they thing won't even POST with it in?!

I wondering about the clock speed that is a mult for the AGP bus. I
can't remember, but I think the AGP speed is a mult of the clock speed.

As for the Device Drivers, it won't help with POST, but it will help
once you get it past post.

I am not aware of any problems with the 5900 card - but I use Matrox.

There is quite a lot of info at 2cpu.com

Insert your new card, make sure that the card voltage is supported -
there are 3.3V cards and 1.xV cards if I remember correctly.

I did some research on the vga-card. The card is 1.5v and should be
supported by my motherboard. But it still doesn't work. I really don't get
it.

I seems I've had nothing but trouble since bying this motherboard.
- My vga-card doesn't work
(http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57030)
- Sometimes, the computer doesn't detect both of my CPUs
(http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57253)
- Sometimes, the computer reboot itself (no, it's not overheating. Both CPUs
are at 40C.)
- Sometimes, The system can't boot from my HD (Error reading disc). Reboot,
and the system works fine.

Nothing but trouble.

Best regards,
Voller.
