Default Sound card problems with Jetway 993AN board

Hi,

I have crackly sound when running a soundblaster 16 ISA, so I decided to
replace it with a Yamaha 724 sound card, which I found lying about.

The card is a PCI sound card. I unplugged the old sound blaster, and put the
yamaha in the PCI slot next to the slot where the old ISA card used to be.
Before I did this I uninstalled the old sound blaster in device manager in
XP.

When I started the machine the new hardware wizard attemped to install the
device, which it seemed to correctly recognise (yamaha sound card).

A message was then displayed, stating that 'problems have occured' and 'the
new hardware may not work properly'. This was the first sign of the problem.

The device manager properties state that the 'device cannot start' returning
code 10. Needless to say I get no sound.

Can anyone help with this?

Is it some sort of BIOS setting, needing changed due to the fact that the
previous card was ISA and the new one is PCI?

Or could it just be a broken sound card?

My config is as follows:

Jetway 993AN Rev 1 motherboard
Celeron 633 / 128 / 66 / 1.65v
64MB PC100 (SD RAM, I assume)
Sound Blaster 16 PCI
Geforce 2 MX
20 - 48x CDROM
Fujitsu 6GB HDD

*many* thanks!

The last time I had a,"Code 10" with a creative sound card was with an
old AWE 64 ISA.I had to re-flash the sound card's BIOS.
It took a lot of finding and eventually it was a,"Dell" bios for the
card that worked.
As you have changed cards I can't see this being the problem with the
new card.

Here's what I'd do.
Pull all sound cards.
Boot to Safemode and remove ALL entries under the sound video and
games section as per,
http://www.geocities.com/sheppola/drivers.html
download and run
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Reviews/r882.html
great free regcleaner for XP(see also it's misc section for some
general tweaks) and it's tips.
Then re-insert the card in another slot and try again.
