I tend to believe that testing their product with only one version
of
Linux, less than one year old (Say SUSE 10.0 and Fedora 4) would be a
reasonable request, because if the hardare pass this test, it will work
with a current version of the kernel, and have working device drivers.

I am pretty sure that sooner rather than later, PC hardware
manufacturers will wake up a smell the coffee: increasing their sales by
10% just by checking their products with Linux is no small feast!
Some would kill for much less sales increase than that!

Note that AMD have been supporting Linux, with enthousiasm, and have no
reason for regrets there.
