Default Safe temperature for HD?

Can anyone advise? Mine's is running at 40-42C. Is that normal?

Check the maufacturers site for envioronmental specs for your model HDD. My
Seagate 80Gb, 7,200 RPM runs at about the same and Seagate says it should
run between 10-60°C.

It's warmer than it "could" be, but is normal, not a problem. Read
the spec sheet for your particular drive to determine max temp spec,
but I'd pretty sure it's higher than 42C.

40-42C is perfectly normal. Keep in mind, 37C is body temperature, and
there's no reason a computer should melt down at only slightly more than
body temperature.
