your geforce 4 ti is par with a fx 5700 plain, that LE you got is weaker
than your 4ti, you wasted money, you should really research before you buy, I now pass the dunce cap :P "Andi Cole" wrote in message ... Just replaced an aging 4600 with a 5700LE and 3dMark01 is 600 lower, can anyone explain please? -- Andi. Remove only one zero to reply |

All right go easy on him. It can be confusing in the way Nvidia names their
cards. The average person goes to the store and sees a higher number so they assume it's faster. |

Actually it was a colleague of mine, it just seamed easier to explain that
I'd made the mistake. The original reason to replace the card was to get DX9 support for Half Life 2 which the 4600 doesn't do. We were looking for a cheap DX9 card to tide him over until he replaces his whole PC next year, budget was about 100 UK Pounds. So the performance was not utmost in our minds but we are still a little disappointed. Comparisons between the two make interesting research, the later benchmarks show a widening gap between the cards as you progress from DX7 to DX9 tests (3DMark2001 to 05 for example). So our conclusion is that HL2 is such a 'pretty' game it must be displayed in all it's reflective glory the 5700 will do that albeit not at 100fps. -- Andi. I've been playing it on a 4200 just fine, except for the sound stuttering bug. If you want DX9 and a performance increase you can notice the best upgrade from a Geforce 4 would be a 6600GT IMO. There are only around two AGP versions out now, more for PCIExpress. The card is around 225 now, but the price will come down. It beats a 9800Pro, and doesn't cost over $300 like a 6800Ultra. |

It was nearly identical to his old fanless Geforce 2. |

Don't remember but it was some crap card like a 5200 SE or something. The point was he would've been better off with a 3Ti200, a 4200, etc. around the $100 price point. His wife was complaining that IE kept crashing. So I take a look, about 10 viruses, and over 600 hits on adaware. There are a lot of other equally hilarious stories... |
