I'm not using an FX 5200

No, but you imply that any card can be made into a Half-Life 2 card by
optimising the drivers.

Starting to wish I got that ATI 9800 Pro card now thats for sure.

Fraid so...

nVidia might pull something out of the bag with their new drivers, but it's
looking a bit bad for them unless the boost is enough to make the 5600Ultra
play HL2 at decent frame rates in DX9.

Otherwise that, and any every other FX card is pretty much a turkey when you
look at the value you get from an ATi 9600pro.

Of course, that's only for HL2, but Valve predict the same from all DX9
games.

Yup, just confirms that an FX card is just money down the drain.

And how does that confirm it ? by possibly showing valve is kissing ATI's
ass and one is better of with a an ATI card because because of the aliances
it makes ?
Just curious.

Well in this case at least...the drivers will be out before the game. And
hopefully they'll improve all DX9 games.

Right, so everytime a new DX9 game comes out, we have to wait for new
drivers optimised for that game???

If you read the article, Valve expect the nVidia performance to be

reflected
in all games.

NVIDIA statement: The Optimizations for Half-Life 2 shaders are in the
50 series of drivers which we made available to reviewers on Monday
[Sept. 8, 2003]. Any Half-Life 2 comparison based on the 45 series
driver are invalid. NVIDIA 50 series of drivers will be available well
before the release of Half-Life 2

I fully agree, time will tell.

If you had to bet your bottom dollar though...

The problem with all this is that who really gets f**** is us, the consumer,
we end up not really knowing what we are paying for, if what we buy is as
good as they say and if the card, either brand, is worth the money :-(

When HL2 is out, and 9600Pro owners report good things, and 5600Ultra users
report bad things, then we'll all know.
