Default Good news for Owners of AM2+ /w SB600

As in my previous post(s) I was unable to use the new Phenom II X6
(Thuban) CPUs in AM2+ motherboards with SB600. Official response was
that SB600 does not support Thuban

Well, the good people at Gigabyte continued support for older, phased
out products, like the AM2+ flagship of 3+ years ago: GA-MA790FX-DQ6
and popped out a new (beta) BIOS, version F7G that has support for the
full range of Phenom II X6 CPUs ( even ones that aren't out yet )

This is (was) a high-end, rock-solid motherboard and, coupled with AMD
backrward technology compatibility and Gigabyte's dedication to
software/firmare updates I had a nice upgrade path from the first 90mm
Athlon X2 6000+ to the 65nm Phenom I x4 and, next week to a Phenom II
X6, all with 125W thermal envelope...

I will be back with test results next week when the first Thuban I
ordered will arrive.

Yup, I'm pretty happy with Gigabyte.

[...looking to upgrade to X6 myself sometime...]

I can report that the new 7FG bios not only adds support for Thuban
core Phenoms but also features like Core Unlocking! On a 3+ years old
SB600 motherboard!

Phenom II X6 1090T works fine on Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6, two days of
cpu stress-testing
and I also tested it on an ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe ( also SB600 ) and it
works ok.

I'm running the 1090T X6 on their 890GPA-UD3H offering at 4ghz, and am
very pleased.
