buying a Dell notebook comparable to Apple (lowest cost) Macbook
Hello,
I am wondering if I wanted to buy a Dell notebook what could I buy that is comparable to a Macbook. My girlfriend has an older Macbook (white 13 inch, she says pre- SantaRosa) 2.xGHz that she bought a couple of years ago and now she bought a new Macbook Pro (13 inch) 2.5GHz. I am wondering if someone would know off their top heads if I were wanting to buy a Dell or even something else what would be comparable (to either Macbooks). I bought a friend a 'nice' Inspiron 15 from the Outlet for $485 that has one of the better CPU available for that system but doing some reading it is not in the same class as a Macbook (Pro or previous MB). I am not looking for very detailed info maybe a systemboard chipset and maybe a video chipset. I am also wondering because they always talk about Macs being more expensive and I am curious what I could buy to get the same processing power . I am not talking about installing OS X on it. |

This is an interesting question, mainly because the operating systems make this something of an apples vs oranges comparision. Compare Vista bloatware with OS X somewhat lean and mean. I would claim that a Macbook running OS X would be more productive that running bloat-Vista on a laptop with the same CPU, memory and hard drive as the MacBook. You also have to look at quality of design, workmanship and parts, something you cannot do when buying a laptop computer. Hell, you can't even look under the hood of a laptop. By most accounts, Macbooks have superior industrial design, the workmanship is quite good, and the parts are, too. Too much of the Wintel industry has slid downward in quality. So a Dell notebook "comparable" to a Macbook makes for an interesting comparison. I think I would NOT start my comparision with a bottom-of-the-line consumer-oriented Dell (or any other brand name) model. Geez, maybe I should go write ad copy for Apple... Ben Myers |

It's what there directly targeting against the macbook air. Is it better?? depends on your taste. |
