Default phenom II and XP

I have updated my MSI K9A2 cf-f with a Phenom II X3 720. XP recognizes
the 3 cores in Device Manager, shows only 2 cores in Task Manager and
AMD OverDrive shows only 2 cores and Cell Temp shows only 2 cores.
Any ideas short of doing an XP repair???

I had a similar problem once. I had a regular quad core phenom, but device
manager only showed one core. Someone told me to go to device manager and
open up System devices and remove one of the entries. I think it was
....um...I'm not sure now, it's been too long - it was one of the entries at
the top of the list. Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System, maybe. Or it might
have been Computer-ACPI Multiprocessor x64-based PC. Sorry I can't remember
which one - but one of them was the culprit. Remove it, and then do a scan
for hardware changes. It reinstalls the correct entry, and I had my four
cores back.

YMMV...removing any of these things from System devices might permanently
break Windows. Proceed with caution.
