Default Soltek K8TPro-939 CPU Temp Reading Optimistic?

I have a Soltek K8TPro-939 (VIA KT800) and a 3200+ Winchester with
the retail heat sink. The BIOS and Soltek HW Utility read the CPU die as 40
C under idle. Everest and Speedfan report 54 C.

Is Soltek's "interpretation" of the on-die diode too optimistic? Something's
not right when the CPU temp is shown in Soltek's utility as just 6 C higher
than my hard disk.
