Default Poor RAID0 performance on ICH5 with WD360 Raptor's - GA-8KNXP

On a friend's system, SiSoft Sandra MAX3's File System Benchmark gives
results of approximately 60000kB/s. The box is a GA-8KNXP with 3.0C
CPU, 1 gig of DDR400 RAM in dual channel mode and two WD360 Raptors in
RAID0 configuration. The drives are on the ICH5 SATA RAID controller.
We tried them on the SIL3112 controller before that with almost
identical results. Both times stripe size was set to 128K.

On my system, the same benchmark gives results of approximately
67000kB/s. My box is a GA-8PE667 Ultra2 with 2.8B CPU, 1 gig of DDR333
RAM and two Maxtor 80 gig SATA drives. My stripe size is 128K.

Now obviously my friend is totally freaking out, since he spent a
bundle on this setup, expecting awesome hard drive performance. I get
a big yuk out of ribbing him that mine is faster, cheaper, better. :-)

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

He IS running Intel Application Accelerator - RAID Edition, if that
makes any difference.
