Cat 5 cable
Where is the best place to get it cheap?
I just need 1000 ft roll. This seems a lot cheaper than most. What is the catch? https://www.homedepot.com/p/SPT-1000...FQF2wQodNDMG6Q |

What is the catch? https://www.homedepot.com/p/SPT-1000...FQF2wQodNDMG6Q You sure you don't want to expend all that effort to string cable by going with Cat 5e cable (less interference)? The Home Depot ad is selling Cat 5e cable. Cat 6 is better (even less interference) and supports higher speed (10 Gbps). You don't want to be string cable again sometime in the future because you went low-end and cheap today. The Home Depot Cat 5e cable is rated only to 125 Mbps. Buriable, waterproof, shielded, or high-temperature (to allow routing through heating ducts) cable will cost more. We don't to what you are comparing the Home Depot product. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1000ft-CAT5...item3f87a3f85b That indoor-only cable is a couple bucks cheaper and with free shipping. I believe you don't get free shipping from Home Depot until the purchase order exceeds a $50 value. If you pick shielded cable at that eBay auction, the price jumps $10. A seller can charge whatever they want. They are fixed to some base price, so you will find different prices from different sellers. As the single Home Depot reviewer noted, it was "cheap" wire but didn't explain what he meant by cheap unless it meant the splicing which should not be allowed in a new box of spooled cabling. Splicing meant the box was used instead of new, and maybe the store sold it as-is/used. If the product doesn't match their description, and often when it simply doesn't fit my job, I've NEVER had a problem with returns at Home Depot so the reviewer is hiding something to make himself look the victim. From Home Depot's listing, it is not something they normally carry. It will have to be shipped to store (for free pickup) or shipped to you (but is under the $45 minimum order for free shipping). |
