Default KT-7 and Capacitor Problem

Been using this KT-7 for some time and just the other day started
acting badly. Registry corruption on shutdown, booting issues, random
crashes in windows. Also noticing my CPU has been running hot (42C in
a 30C system environment, they claim this is a symptom of capacitor
issues)

I've checked the HD , Memory and the rest of it and they all check
out ok. Examining the caps shows that at least 3 of them are
exhibiting that bulge on the top.

Anyone care to share an opinion of success story of getting Abit to
replace these?. I know there is a class action pending , but strangly
the KT7 is not on the list, but the KT7A is. Wonder why.

I read there is a class action lawsuit right now to address this
issue.

see: http://www.abitsettlement.com/

Good luck getting a response from Abit.

I had just bought it used from someone on Ebay. As soon as I got the
board, I plugged everything up on the bench (before installing into a
case) to make sure it was ok. I ran for about 30 seconds- I heard a
pop (it sounded like a lady finger fire cracker). Sure enough a cap
blew. I sent Abit an email after reading about the lawsuit, and never
got a response.

After a week, I decide to fix it myself. I did not want to return the
mobo to the ebay seller, as these are hard to come across. I did some
research, and found a replacement cap at Debco electronics:
http://www.debcoelectronics.com/

If they don't have the one you need, try: http://www.partsexpress.com/

I went ahead and bought 4 of them (3 in a pack, so I got 6) and
replaced all 4 caps that were in the area of the bad one (same type
and manufacturer- they even looked cheap, as they looked like a lower
quality than the other caps on the mobo). I figured this was a
ticking time bomb. It cost me $2.00 for the replacement caps (plus
shipping of course- which was more than the caps) and about an hour to
change them out.... Getting the old ones out was the hardest part as
they are in there pretty tight....

If you can do it yourself, it's really not that bad provided you are
handy with a soldering gun.

Good luck !

So I actually get Abit to sent me a replacement KT7A, and guess
what, comes dead as a doornail and a dead battery to boot.

No post, no beep, but the power is on and the fans work. Same
chips and cpu still work in the old mb so I know its not the PS or any
other part.

Nice of them to waste my time.

This is outside the abitsettlement.com route?
I've not heard word one after sending my paperS
(two dead in O-hi-o) in several months ago.
If this is what Abit is planning on doing
-- sending duds -- what's the point.

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the feedback on Abit returns though.
Other than myself, I have a few friends with older Abit boards. I'll
make sure to tell them to steer clear of the settlement, and fix it
themselves.

Thanks !
