Default GA-MA78GM-S2H SATA Setup

I'm getting ready to assemble a system with the GA-MA78GM-S2H and a SATA HD
and Optical Drive. Can anyone explain the SATA options in the BIOS. I
don't want a RAID setup, but should I select native IDE or AHCI? Can I
install WIN XP from the SATA optical drive or do I need to use an IDE drive?
Do I still need to use F6 and a floppy disk during installation?

Ed

One more thing to check is the sata hd. One I installed, a Seagate 320 came
jumper for 1.5
transfer rate. I had to change the jumpers on the back to get the 3.0 rate.
No big deal.

Native IDE.

A sata optical drive should show up as an ide drive if the native
ide setting is enabled for that port.

Bill

Why not AHCI? I thought AHCI allowed all the drives features to be used.
eg, NCQ,etc.

This is just a question, I'm not having a go at you. I would love to
know the difference.

cheers
Gordy

Because AHCI is according to the manual only properly recognized
by Vista at boot time. Win XP with SP2 or higher will work with
native ide properly. Win XP original and or Win SP1 May work also.
I can't say for sure because I don't have them. I have managed to get
WinXP SP2 to work with AHCI HDs once it was installed. Probably some
patch I downloaded enabled this but I had to use native ide at
install time. Couldn't say about SP3, I tried to install it twice and
it screwed up the previously installed OS. I'll just stay away from
it for a while.

I went ahead and installed with the native IDE settings and everything went
ok. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
