Game Issues
I just installed a Asus P4P800 running DDR333 and P4 2.4 FSB cpu
A game I play, Wolfenstien ET, hangs when it starts, this is the only one that seems the do it, The picture freezes, then you heard a sound in the speakers. Any thoughts or directions one could think of? Thanks |

Hi
Things to try - Reinstall DX9, reinstall vid card drivers, reinstall ET, if there is a setup you can get to (external to the game) change things there, disk defrag, reboot (if you haven't already), turn off background programs, etc See what happens Peter Cavan --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.537 / Virus Database: 332 - Release Date: 06/11/2003 |

Any thoughts or directions one could think of? The combination of the P4P800 with DDR333 is not ideal, because the P4P800 typically woks at 400 MHz for the FSB. If this is your setting, it's normal that under intensive work (games), your memory has problems and your PC freezes or crashes. Check in the bios if your DDR speed is set to the asynchronous speed of 333 MHz (4:5). If this was ok, make sure the Performance Mode (advanced menu) and the Memory Acceleration are set to Auto. Anyways, in your case, I would recommand to exchange your memory for DDR 3200 (400 MHz) or even better (and more expensive!) for DDR3700. Gives you room to run at cas 2. |

They didn't say which 2.4 they are running and if it is a 533 FSB chip there is no option for ram faster than 333! -- Stacey |

Just because I consider it as a logic step to purchase a P4 2.4 with 800 MHz FSB when you acquired an Asus P4P800! |

Thanks to all, it is a 533 FSB CPU, so the restrictions may be in the ram,
so this board will handle DDR 3700???? "Just Wondering" wrote in message . rogers.com... I just bought the same board to use my older 533 2.53 chip to get dual channel ram. Once the 800FSB chips get really cheap I might upgrade it as well? Since it's only one game that has this problem, sounds more like a software/driver issue. Have you tried some of the "calmer" bios settings to see if it acts nicer? (Like auto on the performance ram settings etc). I tried turbo and all I got was garbage on the screen on boot! Might look for different drivers for the video card and see what happens? Sometimes the "latest" isn't "the greatest" as far as being stable. -- Stacey |
