Agreed. The OP does not list his mobo. If he is restricted to AGP, the
upgrading the video card might not increase perf. If he has PCIe then he
might be able to find a deal in that price range.

Good point, knowing if the OP has PCI-E or AGP is a big piece of the puzzle.

See I said it'd been a while since I'd gone through this whole
upgrading rigmarole!

My mobo is PCI-E.

I'm sort of thinking that another gig of Ram plus a middle of the road
PCI-E card might be the path to go down anyone agree and recommend a
card?

In answer to a previous question the games I've noticed chugging are
spiderman 3 and STALKER.

In article , Deeg says...
Current system:

AMD 64 X2 4200+
1GB RAM
Geforce 6800

Currently noticing it chugging a wee bit in a few games. Can anyone
recommend a graphics card around about £100 that'll make a difference?

Would a GFX card in this sort of price range make much of a difference
to my setup?

No. Another 1GB of RAM would though.

No, get a 8800gts or whatever the fastest non-2900 ati card is.
You can get ram later if any stuttering is noticed.

Another gig still wouldn't hurt. PHHHPPPTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before anyone just arbitrarily just sticks another gig of memory into a
machine, they should run task manager to check memory use.

Which is of sod all use as it doesn't tell you how much superfetch is
using.

Another gig wouldn't hurt, but could the money might better spent on
correcting the problem. Better to figure out the problem and address
it.

Which is lack of RAM.

BF2 demonstrates remarkable improvement in quality of play with 2G of
system ram vs. 1G of system ram. The memory footprint of BF2 has peaked
at 987M that I can recall, possibly more. This is mostly due to the way
BF2 handles audio assets.

You should see it with 4GB in then. That's what I've got and am running
Vista x64. Level load times are around 10 seconds.

Have you seen what you can get in AGP now?

Search Here PCI-e:

1GB RAM:

100£ = $195.00 US You should be able to get both RAM and a decent Video
Card for that.

How long does that same task in BF2 take with 2G of the 4G removed?

Since XP can not really use 4G of ram no apples-apples comparison can be
made. Which is too bad, considering any speed improvements in BF2 are
always welcome!

You can even get a 7950GT in AGP form. Not sure investing
this much is a wise idea, so this is just to prove there
are some fast cards still out there.

I guess that was my point. If your paying that much for AGP, you might
be better served to start investing in a newer mainboard.

The 6800 is the last AGP I'll invest in.
