Default MS Mouse Replacement

that is getting a bit iffy at times. It's a beast of a mouse, but I love
it- the way it fits my hand, the easily accessible buttons, etc. I've
tried a few different mice, looking for a decent replacement for it, but
have found nothing that comes close to it for me. Here are a few I've
tried:\

Logitech Wireless Performance Mouse MX (This was the closest, but quit
working less than 3 months after I bought it. Logitech was no help in
fixing/replacing it):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HWRJBM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Anker Ergonomic USB 2.4G Wireless Vertical Mouse (close, but too
vertical):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018LR04B8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Logitech M510 Wireless Large Mouse (not really a "large" mouse, or at
least large enough for me):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NR57BY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Anker® Full-Size Ergonomic Wireless Mouse (very close, but quite large
enough. This is the one I will probably stick with if I can't anything
else closer to the MS):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B0TXEEY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My hands aren't all THAT big that everything should feel so small (I wear
a medium glove). I guess it's just the bulk of the 6000 that makes the
rest feel puny. And I did give most of them at least a month of use before
going back to the 6000, so it wasn't just a 10-minute "This mouse sucks"
decision.

If anyone has a suggestion for a similar mouse that isn't exorbitantly
priced (I'd like to stay well under US$50 if possible), I would like to
hear your experiences with one.

TIA!!

Well, back to square one. I ordered the 6000 on Friday and got an email
today that the order has been cancelled. No explanation, but I'm assuming
there was a sudden run in Hong Kong on these mice; the were "20+ in stock"
when I placed the order, and now they are unavailable.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions/ideas. Guess I'll keep looking. You would
think if the 6000 was THAT popular, someone would at least be making a
knock-off of it :-(

Well, I found one I like. It's a Logitech M705:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TG75EG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's not as tall as the 6000, but the length and width are there, and what
seems now to be the important part of it fitting well, the tilt of the
buttons is the same as the 6000. The other mice I tried were either too
vertical, or the buttons were parallel to the mouse pad, forcing my hand too
far to the left. Hopefully this Logitech will hold up better than the MX I
had.

And, about the "3-year battery life claim"- I put a fresh pair of
rechargeable AA cells in it and the SetPoint software said it had 900+ days
left. Now, after almost 2 weeks of use, it says 632 days left. After these
run down, I might try a fresh pair of alkalines in it to see what happens
:-)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions :-)

The few times I've tried wireless mice, I experienced "lag" so I've
stuck with corded mice.
It's been a few years. Are corded mice faster (to an amount someone
could discern?).
Thanks,
Bill

I've never noticed any lag, even when play an FPS game, but then it's been
years since I've used a corded mouse.
Some mice have a "sleep" feature to help extend battery life; I find that
annoying.

Yes, I went and did some "research" after I made my post. The sleep
feature was mentioned. Another concern (to me) would be the
compatibility of the mouse with Linux, or during a new installation of
Windows. I don't think I'm going to give up my cord just yet.

I recently bought my first cordless mouse (Logitech M510) and am surprised how much I
like it. There's a very tiny lag when I start using the scroll wheel, but I don't
notice any at all with the pointer. The biggest difference for me is the increased
weight. At a little over 4 1/2 oz., it's about double the weight of the corded mouse
I was using. The plus with that is I could increase the pointer speed without
feeling it's too fast.

If the nano-receiver of a wireless mouse shows up as a "USB HID",
it should be OS agnostic.

Serial (RS232) mice are different. They even work in Win10. But
on Linux, I think only Puppy would use one. The other distros always use
my USB mouse, and ignore the serial port as a potential serial mouse
source.

Likely just need to load the kernel module sermouse to get the mouse
to work in any linux distro.

I just bought a Logitech trackball, and I can't believe it's wireless.
It's not like the trackball is moving all over the place, so the cord gets
in the way.

But I think at this point things have settled down. It's not like in the
old days when mice had all kinds of interfaces, so it might not all work
with Linux. Now, mice are either USB or PS/2 (and some do both) so I
suspect things have become standard. I found at a garage sale a keyboard
that was like a laptop keyboard, complete with a touch screen and that
gizmo between the keys, and I just plugged it into my linux machine, and
it worked with no configuration needed.

I suspect at best you might have to do something to account for any
buttons beyond the standard 3. I have a fancy Logitech mouse, and I have
yet to use of the two extra buttons on the side.

I just plugged in the "unifying receiver", and the Linux I'm using, which
is a few years old, recognizes it. I turn on the trackball, and right
away I can control things, no configuration needed.

So I suspect there's no issue using them with Linux.

Michael
