IBM/Hitachi Hard Disk
I'm going to by a second hard disk for my system and was thinking about
buying a 123.5Gb IBM/Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP ATA-100 (7200rpm,8MB Cache, 8.5ms). As well as price my main concern is noise. I want to get a quiet hard disk. Does anyone know how loud this hard disk is in comparison to similar specced disks? Thanks in advance Macca |

Well I have the 2mb cache version and its fairly quiet - just the spin up noise and the heads moving, although this isn't loud. It's quieter than my old Maxtor, which you could hear whining away. |

Macca,
I live in the UK and bought this disk recently from Dabs.com I can say that the drive's noise is inaudible beneath that of the power supply fan. My last drive was an IBM 20GB job, and the new 120GB drive is silent by comparison. Also well worth paying the extra 5 quid for the 8MB buffer. Regards Alan "Macca" wrote in message ...
