Q on reinstalling HP Officejet v40 SW; getting setup and working

I just reinstalled my W2000 OS, and am trying to get my HP Officejet v40
setup and working again. My system is an Soyo SY-5EHM motherboard /w/ an
AMD K2 chip, and I have 512MB of mem, a 10GB HD and my HP Officejet is
USB connected. I had Best Buy set up the Officejet when I bought it,
cause I had bought a Lexmark POS which I returned, unable to get it
working. Before I wiped/reloaded my OS, my Officejet was working just
fine, as it had been since Best Buy installed it and set it up.

I ran the SW installation CD, and it finished up until where it had be
reboot, but the next step never happened, where the FAX Setup Wizard is
supposed to appear upon reboot and complete the installation and setup.
I have consulted HP's online helpo at their webpage, have been in the
Device Manager, but found nothing and have been unable to get my
computer to find and recognize any "new devices", such as my Officejet.
:-(

Please help me, I really don't wanna go back to Best Buy and pay them
any more $$. I should be able to do this, with a little help from my
friends! :-)
