Default (Heavenly Sword) I guess we have to bow before the graphical might that is PS3 -- CGI-ish cut-scene graphics done realtime

newest and best screen-shot (non-playable, touched-up cut-scene) of
Heavenly Sword

developer "nAo" quote:

"Cutscenes use in game engine, nothing more, nothing less."

peonic quote:

"Only touch up work done on the image was a quick re-do of the
specular highlighting on the eyes, the blurring on the background, and
then resizing and jpeg'ing."

Tameem (Ninja Tam) quote:

"I'm assuming most of you have seen the "Cinematic Production" teaser.
The facial model and texturing you see is based on the actress and the
expression is comprised of a series of blend-shapes driven by the
mocap data. Each expression is tweaked by us so that we remain true to
the original performance.

Lighting and depth of field is then applied to the scene and the
results, I hope you'll agree, look pretty nice. This particular
example doesn't have the floor in place and we've made it into a
1280x1024 size image so that it can be used as a desktop wallpaper."

so it's realtime, but touched-up, and of course, not playable. but
good God it does look good.

for comparison here is normal cut-scene from Heavenly Sword that has
not been touched up:

as you can see there's a vast difference between ^that^ and this:

I don't get it. Why claim that a quite obviously post-processed image
is in game? Doesn't the in-game image speak for itself?

Clearly Team Ninja gas got the PS3 working well, so why photoshop an
image to that degree?

in all honesty, both of the pictures look really damn good. maybe the
cinematic filters (blur and highlights) haven't yet been incorporated into
the game engine yet but this is something we can expect??? I dunno. either
way, it looks like a lot of fun.
