corrupt ntfs file system on a 250GB drive on an xp pro system...important data needed...please help!
My NTFS file system is damaged. Oddly enough Partition Magic 8 and
Uneraser 2.01 are both reporting that the file system is now FAT 16. PartitionInfo says that there are disk errors and geometry errors. Uneraser does not seem to be able to recover any files on my partition...is there any way to fix this or at least recover my data? I can't seem to do anything with this partition on windows xp pro since it thinks the file system is FAT 16. I've included info below if it helps...I'm a novice with these programs and afraid to edit the partition table info without some sort of guidance. Any help is extremely appreciated... thanks Rich -Partition Info from Partition Magic 8 is reporting: =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Disk Geometry Information for Disk 1: 30401 Cylinders, 255 Heads, 63 Sectors/Track System PartSect # Boot BCyl Head Sect FS ECyl Head Sect StartSect NumSects =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 0 0 80 0 0 1 04 1023 85 15 0 268,435,455 =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Info: End C,H,S values were large drive placeholders. ups.com... My NTFS file system is damaged. Oddly enough Partition Magic 8 and Uneraser 2.01 are both reporting that the file system is now FAT 16. PartitionInfo says that there are disk errors and geometry errors. Often this problem can be fixed using DiskPatch from www.diydatarecovery.nl. Get the *demo* and create a support analysis logfile. Post that logfile at www.diydatarecovery.com/forum and we'll see if DiskPatch can help you -- Kind regards, Joep http://www.diydatarecovery.nl |

I suggest you use Partition Table Doctor to Fix boot sector.
First thing I recommend you download the demo version of Partition Table Doctor.( http://www.ptdd.com/download.htm ) Run the program and right click the partition and choose fixboot. http://www.ptdd.com/fixboot.htm If have any question, 1. Please describe the problem of your partition, the more particular the more better. 2. Please backup partition table (http://www.ptdd.com/backpartition.htm) to file to create a backup file. 3. Please select "Reports" from "General" menu to create a reports. Send the two files to us( ). Our lab will analysis the files. At last, our lab will send a file back to you and you just restore partition table for partition recovery. |

Thanks for your responses guys. I found a program that was a life
saver for me. I used the program TestDisk from http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html ...It was able to easily fix my partition table and recover 100% of my three ntfs partitions. I'm sure you're familiar with it, but for other "novices" like myself I highly recommend it. Thanks again...cheers |
