Default Compaq Presario 1200 power problems

I have a Compaq Presario 1200 1456VQLIN notebook that is having problems
powering up. It will work occasionally, but most of the time not.

When you plug the power supply into the notebook the power supply light will
come on, but the battery light will not. I have been able to get it to power
up, and everything works fine. I have done a little research in the news
groups and have not found a definitive answer.

A friend of mine was tired of the problem and bought a new notebook, but I
would be willing to spend a little time and effort to get it working
properly. If anyone has any suggestions that would help please let me know.

Thanks,
Steve

I have had this same problem along with quite a few people who own various
types of Compaq laptops. There is a message of the HP forum that goes back
over a year with all sorts of things that people have tried. I don't have
the url with me but the question is 'Presario wont turn on', I think and
that is how the person typed won't that started the whole thing.

My 1200 hasn't worked for 5-6 months. I had someone replace the cmos
battery (one of many suggestions) but it didn't help. Just for the heck of
it, I tried plugging it in last night and it booted up and seemed to work
fine for about an hour. Hadn't tried it in a month. I haven't had the
money to take it anywhere so it has just been sitting doing nothing.

Anyway, you can try that forum at HP-maybe one of their many suggestions
will work for yours.
