Question about SDR memory vs DDR memory
I currently have 1 gig of SDR PC133 memory. Will I experience a significant
speed increase if I go to 1 gig of DDR 433 memory? How would I know if my motherboard can support it? I know very little about memory, so please excuse what may be an obvious question to everyone out there. |

If you are running sdram chips you cannot put DDR ram into that motherboard. They require different sockets. |

You'll need a new motherboard and processor if you want to use DDR. |

There are some very common motherboards that can use either PC133 or DDR memory, because they have both types of slots on the board. Both types cannot be used at the same time though, it's one or the other. You make no mention of the specific motherboard make/model so we cannot know if this is the situation. Consult your motherboard manual for memory type supported. IF your motherboard supports DDR memory (PC1600, PC2100, etc) then you should be able to use DDR433, most often called PC3500. |

Do you guys REALLY think I'd ask this if my motherboard didn't support DDR? I have 2 slots for SDR and 2 slots for DDR. |

You probably will see some improvement doing to double data rate, at whatever speed. |

I supports the PC2100 DDR, so I bought 2 gigs of the 233mhz stuff, the max my motherboard can use. |

... You said... I currently have 1 gig of SDR PC133 memory. Will I experience a significant speed increase if I go to 1 gig of DDR 433 memory? How would I know if my motherboard can support it? When you use 'it' instead of the correct noun, you'll get ambiguous replies. We thought you were asking if yer mb supported DDR memory. Use nouns whenever you can...instead of pronouns...especially in technical questions. The way I read it, I think it's obvious that my motherboard has DDR slots. Why else would I ask about a speed increase SDR vs DDR? Based on the fact that my motherboard has DDR slots, it's apparent that I was asking how I would find out if my motherboard supported the 433 memory. Since I posted this message, I found my motherboard's manual, found that it can support up to 2 gig of the DDR 266 and I've purchased 2 gig of DDR 266... Thank you for the replies, though. |

... Because you know very little about memory?...and didn't know that the two are not interchangeable? At any rate, that's what some of us assumed. Tsk tsk. There's that "A" word... ya know what that makes U and Me, right? |
