Direct X 9
How much difference does a direct X 9 compatible video card make? Most
cards that I have been looking at only say direct X 8, however my current card is DX8 yet I can run DX9 games on it. Will DX9 cards support DX9 to some extent? -- remove SPAM to reply Victoria Concordia Crescit |

Will DX9 cards support DX9 to
some extent? I think you meant DX8 support DX9 right? DirectX 8 cards can play games for DirectX 9 they just won't be able to do the the features that DirectX 9 cards can do. |

Bull****, you miss none of the visual effects, if the card supports
DX8 fallback.. See my other post. Yes you do. Such as with Morrowind. If you have a DirectX 8 card the water looks almost like real water. If you try playing the game with a DirectX 7 card the water does not look as nice because its missing the DirectX 8 features that make the water look realistic. |

It's a fact that a game with DX9 shaders will not show them on an DX8 card unless the game also has DX8 shaders. Look at Max Payne II, look at the mirrors, if you have a DX9 card you can see in the mirror your image... if you have a DX8 card there is no mirror, only grey ... |

I won't say you wrong (cause you don't ;-) but actually there is no need for DX9 for this. There where nice mirrors in SWAT 3, which is an old game, and I'm not sure if it's DX7 or earlier. Tal |

There are ways around Direct X features that is true, but what you end up with never be the same as having the actual Direct X feature to begin with. It could be quality of the image and or speed of drawing the Image. |
