Computer Booting up Problem
Hi all,
I have a problem with booting my PC up when it hasn't been on for a while. When I press the power button it sounds like the PC is starting as normal for about 5 seconds but then dies. Pressing it again does nothing, it's only after holding it down for ages, then quickly pressing it after when it will load up (and that's after several attempts). I've been told it's not my power supply as this either works or doesn't and as I can get my PC running the PSU is not faulty. Any help plz? Joel |

Joel That's not necessarily true, a failing power supply can cause this, and it is usually the problem. Unfortunately this is commonly a 5VSB problem, which may test as nearly the correct voltage so the easiest test would be trying another power supply. Possibly some motherboard capacitors on the verge of failure would cause this too, but that "verge" is a finite period in time, it's more likely the power supply. A power supply with a bad 5VSB rail can still power a system fine once that system is successfully POSTed, since the 5VSB rail isn't needed after power-on. On the other hand if you'd been in the system recently or moved it, double-check everything. Dave |
