Problems with Dell flat panel screen
Has anyone out there experienced problems with their 15 inch analog
flat panel screen? My 20 month old one just stopped working a couple of days ago. I had thought that it would last at least 3 years, so didn't bother taking out an extended warranty - this was a mistake as the Dell support desk have informed me that they do not fix the flat panels i.e. I have to buy a new one. Trying to complain and escalate the problem has got me nowhere (atypical of anonymous call centers more concerned with processing calls rather than customers - enough ranting, sorry). Two questions: (1) Are Dell allowed (by UK law) to "not fix" their faulty goods? I always thought the manufacturer had a duty to fix faulty goods (with a charge if applicable). (2) Anyone else out there had the same problem? What did you do? Thanks. |

Two questions: (1) Are Dell allowed (by UK law) to "not fix" their faulty goods? How long was the warranty for? If the warranty is only a year, then you are out of luck. Prices are low now for 17" lcd monitors. You should replace it with a 17"(or larger) lcd monitor. I always thought the manufacturer had a duty to fix faulty goods Something is only considered faulty if it breaks within the warranty period as a result of normal use. I believe some brands of lcd monitors have a 3 year warranty, while others only have a year warranty. Companies are not required to repair or replace out of warranty items. If the warranty was only a year, then perhaps for your next monitor you might want to find a manufacturer with a longer warranty. (with a charge if applicable). (2) Anyone else out there had the same problem? What did you do? Thanks. |

They do NOT have to fix/exchange a device that is out of warranty.

I suggest you contact the appropriate government dept, perhaps Trade and Industry, for more information. One or more of the following Acts may apply. IANAL. The Data Protection Act 1998 The Consumer Protection Act 1998 British Codes of Advertising and Sales Promotion The Distance Selling Regulations 2000 The Unfair Contract Act 1977 and 1999 regulations The sales of Goods Act 1979 The Consumer Credit Act 1974 The Trade Descriptions Act 1968 |
