Default no picture on PC Monitor when playing DVD's

I have a Dell Dimension PC Pentium 4 2.5 GHZ with an nvidia gforce 4
video card. The PC is running Windows XP Profesional.
When I first got the PC DVD's would play on both the monitor and the
TV at the same time. I had the screen cloned. Sometime over the last
months it has stopped doing this. Now the picture only plays on the
screen that is designated as primary. XP has downloaded numerous
patches and some video driver updates since I first got the PC. Is my
only recourse to undo all of that and see which patch or upgrade is
responsible for this problem, or has anyone else run into a solution
for this problem?

Andrew. Ran into same problem with my HP 750n using RELISYS 17 inch
monitor. My best guess is the problem is with the NVIDIA driver. The
OEM driver that came with the PC worked fine. When I accepted &
installed a NVidia adapter driver update (NVidia driver 4.0.7.2 dtd
09/27/2002) I didn't notice any change. The next time I tried playing
a DVD, I had no video. If I tried resizing (using my mouse to grab the
lower right corner of the window) the playback window while the movie
was playing, I could see choppy video as long as I kept resizing. The
second I released my mouse to stop resizing, I would lose the picture
again. Switching players didn't help. I rolled back to my OEM NVidia
driver (NVidia driver 2.8.3.2 dtd 03/09/2002) & everything is working.

Anyhow. Try rolling back your Adapter Driver & this should fix the
problem. Here's how:

Right-click on Desktop to open Display Properties.
Click on 'Settings' Tab.
Click on [Advanced] button at lower right.
Click on 'Adapter' Tab.
Click on [Properties] button
Click on 'Driver' Tab
Click on the [Roll Back Driver] button
Allow the Rool back and restart of your PC.

Try your DVD player now. Bob Spiteri

I tried the roll back. Other video problems are corrected now, no more
choppy video, but I still don't see any video playback (for any
format) on the cloned screen that is not set as the primary.
This didn't used to happen.

Went to Nvidia's web site and downloaded the latest drivers.
Disregarded windows XP telling me it was not "blessed" by them.
Everything is working great now, video is smooth and I get the picture
on both screens. The TV out can even be maximized while the PC screen
has it running in a window. Sweet!!
