It's a sad day for computer users when we have a 'feature' of XP turned on in
default when in fact it should have been turned OFF with default. Now we have
people trying to make money on telling you how find the area in the os to turn
it off. Sad....

Start/ Administrative tools / Services

Scroll down till you see Messenger and double click it. Change startup box to
say DISABLED.. STOP the service and reboot. Fixed. FOR FREE.

ps.. if you don't see the "administrative tools" in your start menu.. Add it by
right clicking on an empty spot in your start menu box, select properities and
then "customize" . Click on the Advanced tab and scroll to the bottom of that
list. Check the box for "Display on the All Programs menu and the Start Menu".
