Default Installing WinXP on a RAID0 - Intel controller - 8KNXP

Hi B,
Good input on disabling the ITE comptroller. Thank you.
As far as where to put windows is concerned, We believe the OS should be on
the fastest drives. So, we put XP and applications on a pair raptors using
RAID 0. Since they are 10,000 RPM, things load quickly.
This MB has the SIL chip.
The ITE RAID 0 is used for storing .jpg and .tif, since the ITE parallel
controller is at its best with large files.
We have no experience with the Intel unit. in fact we have seen no speed
data on the Intel unit.

Hello all,
This might be interesting. Tried this weekend to install WinXP on a RAID 0
array on the Intel ICH5R (so not using the Sil controller). Everything

went
fine, drivers installed via F6 etc (download IAAR352_ENU.exe - Intel
Application Accelerator RAID 3.5.2. edition and extract the driver files

on
to a floppy), until the after the first phase of the installation, i.e.

the
point where all the files have been copied and the computer starts up

again.
At that point, the setup would not not continue (as it should)! and the
whole set up proces would start up again! In other words, running around

in
circles!
Simply couldn't understand why set up didn't want to continue. Tried all
sorts of things, but in the end the solution turned out to be to DISABLE

the
ITE controller in the BIOS. With this controller enabled, SWin XP setup

does
not continue beyond the first phase and keeps starting all over again.

With
the ITE controller disables, the whole setup worked flawlessly.

One other interesting point. Where do you put Windows on?
a) ICH5R Raid0 or Raid1 - b) the SIL controller Raid0 or Raid1) or the ITE
controller.
Used to have WinXP on the ITE / Raid 1 - Tried the SIL controler, but got

a
broken array twice within a couple of days. Furthermore, the array didn't
"feel" stable or reliable. Now WinXP installed on the ICH5R / Raid 0. No
problems so far and everything feel stable and quick.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
regards, Boudewijn
