Default nVida Control Panel, 3D Program Settings

GeForce Driver 182.06, WinXP Pro SP3

nVidia Control Panel, Manage 3D settings, Program Settings tab

Specific problem is the "Show only programs found on this computer"
option NOT finding programs on my system.

When I was running driver 175.16 or earlier, using the "found on this
computer" option the drop-down would automatically show all games on
my system.

When I updated to driver 178.24 the "found on this computer" option
would not work at all. Could not even use [Add]. A solution was
suggested from a post in this group; I used the nvgames.dll from the
175.16 driver (I keep backup copies of the contents of C:\NVIDIA).
This worked, the 178.24 Control Panel now automatically found programs
on this computer.

Now the 182.06 driver Control Panel does not find programs on my
system. I can use [Add] but can only add programs that are NOT on the
main (un-check "found on this computer" option) drop-down list.

The fix I used last time does NOT work, in fact it keeps Control Panel
from opening properly.

Example; I have BioShock, "found on this computer" does not
automatically list it, if I [Add] it to the "found on this computer"
list, upon exiting the Control Panel it disappears from the "found on
this computer" list.

Is there a fix that will make this driver 182.06 Control Panel "Show
only programs found on this computer" option automatically find all
programs on my system?

Hi Tecknomage,

I have this very same problem and have drawn a blank as to how to get
around this problem.
Did you manage to fix it or maybe found a way around this problem.
I would be grateful if you could pass on any info or links you have
found with regards to this annoying Nvidia glitch.

kind regards,
DanKurt.

No. I did send a letter (snail-mail) to nVidia Corporate noting that
this problem has existed since v178 drivers and why haven't they fixed
it by now. But, of course, I'm not holding my breath waiting for an
answer. I suspect nVidia engineers don't give a damned about this
feature.

I know it should be easy to fix, just have the feature query the
Installed Programs in the Registry and list nVidia recognized (as
listed in main program drop-down). Better, include a button to scan
all your drives for the game-executable and add to the "found on this
computer" list.

Have you tried http://www.nhancer.com/? It bypasses the whole question of
dealing with Nvidia's perennially dodgy 3D settings completely.

Thanks

Got nHancer. Very nice, but.....

With the filter set for "Predefined Profiles on installed
applications," and show "SLI Profiles," the listing DID show Profiles
that the nVidia Control Panel did not (files on this computer option).

Example, nHancer did see I had Bioshock on my system.

Problem, nHancer did NOT automatically see I have Unreal 2 on my
system. The only way to make nHancer list Unreal 2 was to use the
"Predefined Profiles all" option OR customize the Unreal 2 Profile.

I had to use this work-around for 75% of the games I had on my system.

Except for NOT FULLY fixing the files/apps on my system automatically
listing, nHancer is a big improvement.
