Default Artifact issues with agp 6800GT

Hi

Ive had this issue as desribed above for the past two years which does not
create any problems in 2d. However when i try and run most 3d games ie COD,
HL2 .GW I can play for around 15 mins and i get the same artifact issue that
results in a scrambled screen requiring reboot. I ve tried all sorts of
drivers, fresh installls, new high tech psu, extra cbox cooling ( including
the trick of blowing air into the case) and cannot find a solution. The card
runs at 350/100 memory clock speed, however when i use riva tuner i can
underclock it and it provides a temporary solution.

I've looked at various sites and understand others have issues with
artifacts. As yet i have not found a permenant solution?

Any ideas before i consider changing the card?

Thanks

Mark

If underclocking helps it sounds like heat - even though you've been trying
to deal with it.
Get the card out of your pc and take the fan off (a couple of small screws)
and clean it and the heatsink.
Did this to my own 6800gt and it cut over 17 degrees c in idle.
The dust almost makes a dirt-wall in the sink, no air through the heatsink =
no cooling no matter HOW many fans you have in the case.

I had this articating with a 6800gt AGP and a mobo with VIA chipset(in the
shape of black thorns of various sizes) with any driver except the one from
the card´s CD. The only cure was to use AGP4x instead of 8x. Well, for
others with the same problem, RMAing the card or getting another power
supply did the job. After mobo upgrade, problem was gone, though.
