Default 7800GS power plug(s)

Hi...
OK, with the danger of having another 'blonde moment'... I am just about
to upgrade to the 7800GS AGP. However, I notice that there is an
independant power plug that supplys the card (good idea), there is a
female multiplug that plugs into the card and two fly leads coming out
of this with PC type molex plugs (two ?). The manual does not explain
why there are 'two' fly leads? Do I have to find two spare PC power
sockets to feed this fly lead or will just one suffice? Does it matter
which one I plug into?

Any help/advice appreciated.... Dave

That should be a splitter, so you can run a lead or fan from it.
Running a fan might be OK, but you should have as clean a lead as you
can to the graphics card so the voltage doesn't fluctuate with load.
And unless you really need the splitter, just run a line to the card.
I'd assume you would need an extension to reach a drive though.

The square connector has two +12 volt pins and two ground (or earth) pins.
These supply the DC-DC voltage downconvertors/regulators on the display
adapter board. The two circuits are connected in parallel.

The two flat Molex four lead connectors are each supposed to be plugged into
connectors from the power supply. The specifications for these connectors
are 4 amperes maximum for each position. The 7800 GS AGP uses 12 volts and
requires more than 4 amperes. The square Molex four pin connector has TWO
12 volt circuits, so it has twice the ampere rating. You can probably get
away with just one, but you should check for the voltage drop over the
connector and check the connector for heat. It really doesn't matter if you
use a splitter before the flat connectors to share a line with drives or
fans, because the limitation is on the connector, not the wires. If you do,
be sure you use BOTH connectors so that none of the flat connectors have to
supply more than 12 volts at 4 amperes.

Does the power connector on the end of the card look like this?

Just plug a spare female 4-pin Molex connector from your PSU into it. Done.
