much of this is way over my head, but I want to learn.

my primary usage is Autocad, not gaming. I am satisfied with my setup,
although people here are used to better stuff......

simple question: how does one overclock the proc and how much of an
increase in speed might be reasonable to expect?

(using Belarc)

Processor:
1.60 gigahertz AMD Pentium 4
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Main Circuit Board:
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 'K8N' Rev 1.xx
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 1009 09/06/2005

Memory Modules
512 Megabytes Installed Memory

754 socket, Sempron 2800 (if memory serves) with Nvidia chipset
board claims 800 for the FSB but the bus clock says 200
note in Belarc says:
Data may be transferred on the bus at one, two, or four times the Bus
Clock rate. well, 4 times 200 would be 800 mghz....

make me feel stupid, please. I can get over that.
ignorance is expensive.

thanks

Sempron 2800+ has a locked multiplier of 8x max. the system clock is
200MHz, so 8x200=1600MHz (1.6GHz). To overclock this ssytem you have to
raise the system clock. To do that to any extent, you have to lower the HT
link and ram bus base speeds to compensate since they will overclock with
the system clock. I've type complete details here many times. I'm done.
Use google and search back through this group or simple search for
overclocking Sempron 754 2800+ on yahoo or whatever.
