Default BFG 6800 GT OC

Hi All, im currently having a problem with my card. I have contacted BFG,
and was hoping to get a second opinion.

The graphics card work okay, 95% of the time, however just recently when i
play high end games, for instance F.E.A.R. / Quake IV / COD 2 Demo / Star
Wars Republic Commando after a short time, can be different lengths, 10 to
20 minutes normally, the graphic card just cuts out and stops any display.
However, the computer seems fine and still sounds as though it is running
fine.

I quickly reset, and check the temp reading in the drivers, and it isnt hot,
running at normal CPU and Ambient Temps.

I have noticed that in Everest Home Edition my Voltage Values are all
running at the following values:-

Field Value
+3.3 V = 3.33 V

+5 V = 4.89 V

+12 V = 12.03 V

+5 V Standby = 5.08 V

Could it be that the Graphic Card is trying to pull that little extra bit of
power and not getting it, therefore turning itself off, or could it be
something else? Any ideas are welcome.

Especially to save me wasting money on a new PSU if i dont need one.

BTW, im currently using an ENERMAX 46O W PSU.

Here is a rundown of my system.

OT, but...

What could possibly be taking up 357.3 gigabytes of HD space there? Damn.

Genuinely curious,

Have you installed the newest nVidia drivers...they seem to be causing
trouble for many people.

Other than that...I have no idea.
I think your PSU is fine.

As long as you aren't playing those games at 1600x1200 with everything set
high (especially FEAR - oh don't even get me started)...hmm...strange.

Temps from your GPU (in my limited expeirence) will get drastically cooler
if they're not being used, so as soon as you restart and quickly check your
temps you may not notice a difference, even if before the card was getting
too hot while playing an app.

Have you tried playing these games at extremely low quality settings? Try
FEAR with minimal video and performance options, at something like 1024x or
even 800x. See if the card cuts out then.

Default BFG 6800 GT OC

Hi,

I also have the same card, and I also am having serious problems with it.

I already got an RMA and replaced my card once for the same one, but the
problem is still here, almost the same way. It is related to overheating of
the GPU and/or its memory+other components on the card. I do not think the
custom cooling solution of BFG (with copper heat-pipe heatsink and two fans)
is not as good as nVidia's design, and hence, it can not keep the card
cool-enough.

Get RivaTuner from Guru3D and run the stats server and set the RivaTuner to
run in the system tray and show you the GPU temperature. tehn, run the games
that give you trouble and observe the temperature to see whether your card
gives up at a certain temperature range.

Let me know, what comes out. Maybe we can go for a class-action suit against
BFG :P

I just went through the same problem with my ATI 9800XT. Turned out the
fan was slowly dying, so after a bit of play it would overheat and the
video would cut out. I replaced it with a BFG 6800 GT OC! I have had
no further problems.

So either your BFG has a cooling issue (maybe one of the fans has a
problem), or the inside of your case is too hot. I personally always
leave the side off my PC case because (1) I don't care how it looks and
(2) I'm more interested in keeping everything inside as cool as possible!

As a test you might try running with your PC case open for awhile and
see if those games have the same problem. If they don't, then your case
may have insufficient airflow...

check out support for info but I think that BFG had an issue where a BIOS
update was necessary. I cant remember if it was VGA card or motherboard but
I'm nearly certain its a graphics card BIOS update.
