look for the best price, or get the 6600gt if your concern to get the
extra 5fps that the 6600gt will give you. Also you could check for the
vivo version of the 2 cards just to get more inside your PC for less.

If i recall well the x700pro 256mb is a bit slower but it can do any
resolution without running out of mem "i own one" like i've read the
other do at some game. It can play games like doom3, riddick escape
from butcher bay and battle field 2, farcry, half life 2, flat-out,
pariah -- pretty good one imo, colin mc rally 2005, x2 the tread --
it's like playing a new game on that videocard.

Anyway it's your choice it down for 230$ can at some place here and it
a asus.

hardly worth it really. you will get a reasonable performance boost, but do
you really want to buy such low range stuff? spend a little extra and get
something that will last you much longer

I would hardly call a the 6600GT "lowrange". It performs pratically equal to
the best of the highend stuff (Radeon 9800XT etc) a generation ago.

Saying that. Their used to be lowend, midrange, and highend. Now I've heard
terms like performance mainstream, ultra highend etc etc. How many cards do
Nvidia and ATI want to release!?!

Its all product mapping... Nvidia tries to drive up sales by creating a
card that targets a market segment, ATI responds and vice versa. It
certainly adds to the confusion in the market place...

Personally I think a 9600pro is pretty decent as a starter card or
entry level. I have a 9700pro and was looking at jumping up to a 6600GT
but decided against it, there's not enough 'ooomph' to justify $200.

I suspect in another few months, once the FUDOs hit the street, there
will be a big downward push on card prices... the X800s and 6800s will
come down alot and be a better option for upgrades. Although the 7800
is out right now, there's not competition for that card yet so the
market hasn't corrected itself.
