Default Reinstalling drivers

I have a Nvidia GeForce FX520 video card. I recently installed the 77.77
drivers and started having trouble with various applications, principally
IE6, freezing. The notice also kept coming up 'application X is misbehaving,
should nview stop managing it' although I had no entries for specific
applications in the nview desktop manager.

When the 78.01 driver came out I installed that, thinking this might deal
with my problem. The installation went normally but the problems were still
there. So I uninstalled the driver completely, rebooted, and installed the
72.14 driver. Here is where things start to get weird. On rebooting I get
the Hardware Wizard saying it has found a new device (the video card) for
which it has no driver. But I had just installed the driver! But anyway I
pointed the wizard to where I had stored the 72.14 files. It worked its way
through and then said there was some kind of error and my hardware might not
be installed correctly.

As I have GoBack installed I was able to roll the whole system back to
before the uninstallation of 78.01. I then went into the device manager to
roll back to the previous driver, and lo and behold I found the present
driver to be given as 72.14. Now when GoBack goes back, it reverts the whole
system, so I should have been operating with 78.01. Does this mean that the
installation of 77.77, and 78.01 after it, which to all intents and purposes
had gone smoothly, had failed in some way? Anyway, I clicked to roll back
the driver ... and no change.

Has anyone any pointers how I can uninstall whatever driver / driver
combination I have and reinstall 72.14 without provoking unnecessary
hardware wizards?
