Dimension XPS Gen3 and nVidia SLI

There is only ONE PCI Express x16 slot. The other is a PCI Express x1 slot.
Can the card work with an x1 slot? Also, NVidia does not truly implement PCI Express into their chipsets yet, as ATI does. NVidia is using an AGP to PCI Express bridge chip, so you would still be getting the equivalent of an AGP card. That said, however, there probably is not much difference speedwise between AGP8X and PCI-E x16. The theoretical differences are quite large, but not the current real-world performance. Yes, all PCI Express cards, which use a full 16x slot work with 1x slots, they will only work a little bit slower. Also, NVidia does not truly implement PCI Express into their chipsets yet, as ATI does. The new Geforce 6600 GT has a plain PCI Express interface, there is no bridge chip! Regards, Manuel |
