Default computer freezes up

I have a 2.8gh chip on a ASUS MB, with 4 g of Ram running XP Pro with
a AIW ATI card.

In the last few days my computer will just freeze up, sometimes
accuring on a mouse click.

Sometimes rebooting will not solve the problem, just get my background
photo, no icons. A hard reboot will sometimes fix the problem.

In event error viewer, it does mention the ATI software not being able
to load.. I did reinstall it.

I did go back a week and restored Windows to that point where it wasnt
freezing but that didnt help.

I tested the RAM and its okay. When it working, it works fine.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the temperature of the card when it is failing? You
could also use a program like ASUS Probe to monitor the voltages and see
if maybe one of them is marginal and causing problems. You might also
want to check the motherboard to see if any of the capacitors are
bulging or leaking. My P5P800 was randomly rebooting because of a bad cap.

Its the Radeon AIW 9600 card
ASUS P4P800 Board

Didnt notice any bulging or leaking ones, but can always see them all.

I uninstall the Radeon Drives and reinstalled. All the fans are
working and the temperature is low.

I put in a back up drive I have, that just has OS and programs, ie
th bulk of data on it.

I still freezes, just less often. No apparent reason it freezes, just
sort of random.

The the main drive sometimes happens a lot, this one not as often.

So since my mind shop PC Club went out of business and I cant figure
it out, I order another computer

Now I will need advise about how to move everything, settings,
bookmarks, programs over to it.
Thanks.

Its from one xp pro computer to another, a new Dell with XP installed
and they also give you a Vista Ultimate disk.

Noticed a program call PCMover by Laplink and they claim they can
move an installed program to a new PC and its install on it, registry
entrees and all. than would be big help
They want $60 for it
