You'd probably be wise to google on Maxtor - they seem to be more prone to
failure than others.

Spend the extra few £££ and buy the Western Digital 8mb cache drive,
faster, quieter and you get a 3 year warranty not 1

I got that WD drive and it failed within 6 months!!!!

Got an RMA number, they sent me a replacement - that failed too on the same
day.

So they sent me another replacement and it's working OK so far...

Never had any problems with Maxtor, so my next purchase will be Maxtor.

Ebuyer 120GB/2MB
£78.31 (5days delivery)
£79.25 (3days delivery)

Both below:- Maxtor 120GB's but 8MB Cache
However they are both around the £90 region delivered
http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/k.asp?action=info&p=30782
http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-in...0&refererid=PR

Upto you if you think it's worth going for more cache. Apart from that I
don't think you can beat Ebuyer on the 2MB price

The closest is Dabs @ £80.52
http://www.dabs.com/products/show-ba...ve&id=17039377

I personally have never shopped with Ebuyer so can't say about their service
etc.

Never had problem with Komplett but their delivery normally takes two days
and is about £8. It's suppose to be overnight DHL but normally gets shipped
from Oslo I think ... well according to their track & trace ( quite amusing
if you follow the updates online ) ... weird.

Dabs on the other hand have always delivered next day in my personal
experience and their delivery is less than £4 and items I've ordered have
come well packaged.

Over the years I've had far more customers back with faulty Maxtor drives
than any other make, and thats taken over a few years and a hell of a lot of
drives. I would go for the WD every time.

Cheers,

Ally.

If you're upgrading an older PC whose BIOS might have a problem
recognising a large HDD then there might be an issue if you need to
install BIOS-overlay software such as is supplied with the non-OEM,
boxed drives.

Recently I've had to remove WD drives and substitute Maxtor because
their software actually worked, whereas the WD disk management
software didn't. Obviously a BIOS update is the preferred option.

In my own PC I've had a problem with an IBM drive due to overheating.
Two 7200 RPM drives can get rather warm...

take care.

Maxtor also happen to have by far the best warranty replacement
service so even if it *does* go wrong it's easy and quick to get it
replaced.

If the faulty one can still be read from you can even use the advanced
replacement service to get a replacement before shipping back the old
one, thus giving you the opportunity to copy your data.

It's Maxtor every time for me!
