sdram CL speeds?

I've been looking at sdram prices at crucial.com, and I'd like to know
why PC3200 sdram is apparently slower then PC2700 sdram, going by the
CL factor as PC3200 is the latest version. The motherboard I've
chosen is the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, and it says to use PC3200? { I'll be
getting a gig [512 x 2] } But my nephew says has tried PC32000, after
using PC2700 and changed back to 2700 as he AND his father my brother
Jeff say the PC2700 sdram is quicker?
