Default 97.02 nVidia control panel doesn't work

Hi -

Does anyone else have an 8800GTX and using the official 97.02 driver and has
problem with seeing NVidia control panel?

What I see is:
a window comes up that is titled "NVIDIA Control Panel".
The window has a left menu with "Help... Contents... Index... Search...
Contact NVIDIA"
In the middle is just "Select a Category" and a bunch of white space.
Also button at top to change from "Advanced view" to "standard view" and it
does nothing.

Isn't the 97.02 driver just for 8800 series?

The new control panel requires .NET to be installed (probably 2.0).

When did this become a requirement? I did come across a forum post that says
..NET needs to be installed if you are running pre-SP2. If it were true, then
I'm very surprised there hasn't been anything mentioned in official release
notes and user's guides. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=15746
