SmartStart v. 5.0 CD ISO needed
I was recently given a Compaq ProLiant 2500 along with a Compaq 7 bay
Storage System just to play with. I know it's old, but one of the weaknesses in my skillset is SCSI configuration and management, and besides, it's got enough HD space that I can use it as a pretty good Fedora Core Linux server for my home office. The problem is, my benefactor did not have the CDs for the server. I have searched HP's site high and low and the oldest ISO they seem to have available for download is SmartStart 5.50, which didn't support the 2500 server, so I can't use it. I've tried downloading the floppies, but I'm not having much luck with that method, and I'd prefer to boot to ONE cd and do the setup of the server rather than playing the "did I get all my floppies downloaded and imaged" game every time I start to fool with it. Also, my floppy drive on my desktop PC is old and I keep getting disk errors on writes, so I'm tired of dealing with it. Anyway, if anyone has a copy of SmartStart 5.0 on CD that they could make available for me to download, I would be very thankful. If not 5.0, I'll be happy to take any version that actually supports the Proliant 2500. Thanks in advance! |

Actually ... 5.50 will support the 2500. its been more than 5 years since it was EOL'd, so its not on any of the matricies. Get that iso, burn it and have fun. - LC |

SmartStart v. 5.0 CD ISO needed
I have tried already. When I downloaded the ISO for 5.5 from HP, the
system would not boot to it, though it successfully boots to CD on other discs. I had a co-worker (a systems admin) tell me he hass had teh same problem with HP ISOs in the past. The data is on the CD, but the CD will not boot the system. It explores fine while in the CD of another computer. Lest someone ask the obvious, yes, I know how to use Nero to open an ISO and burn it. I didn't just burn the file to a CD. :-) I've got someone ftping an ISO from their SmartStart 5.0 CD to me hopefully today, so If I get that and it works, I'll let you know. Thanks, Steve NuTCrAcKeR wrote: wrote in message oups.com... I was recently given a Compaq ProLiant 2500 along with a Compaq 7 bay Storage System just to play with. Thanks, Steve This happens to me EVERY time, too...except when I burn the CD at the SLOWEST POSSIBLE SPEED! It's true, don't ask my why it is, it just is. Burn your CD at 12x (or 8x if you can), then chances are that it will boot properly. Jeff i used to have a download system setup because thier ISO's are such a pain in the ass to work with. They didnt even offer 5.50 until about a year and a half ago. 95% of the people that got it had no problems. there was the odd app that had issues ... but it was really slick. - LC |

SmartStart v. 5.0 CD ISO needed
That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. But it worked! Thanks for
the advice. I have a follow up issue, but I'm posting it in a new thread. If you know Linux, look for that one. Thanks!
