Seagate SATA 120GB raw read errors
Greetings,
I have a relatively new Intel D865PERL MB with a single Seagate SATA 120GB drive, running XP Pro. I recently installed Active SMART 2.4 to monitor the drive, and have noticed frequent changes to the drive's raw read error rate as read by Active Smart, both up and down. It seems as though activity at the outer most sectors, first (system) partition, effects the changing error index. The drive table lists the threshold (TEC) for raw read error at "6" and my actual rate is fluctuating between "66" and "69" with the "Worst" recorded value at "63" (with a corresponding index numbers for the on the fly ECC correction). I have no experience with S.M.A.R.T. monitors and don't know if the frequently changing index for raw read errors within a range of values is about normal for these very high density drives or not. I have only been monitoring for about 48 hours, so I can not say that I am seeing a downward trend on the raw read err rate, yet. Any thoughts? Thanks, KC |
