PATA to SATA on 8KNXP
Mobo: GA-8KNXP non-Ultra v1
P4 2.8C (not overclocked) 2gb Kingston CAS3 RAM XP-Pro (all updates) Next week I'll hopefully be replacing my Maxtor PATA C: drive with a SATA (WD Raptor), cloning with Norton Ghost 2003, and I've run into a snag. I enabled the "On-chip SATA" (presumably the ICH5R controller) in the bios (f9) and the RAID function, but XP-Pro didn't pick up any new hardware or ask for any drivers after enabling these options. I then downloaded the ICH5R driver v3.5.2.2654 from the Gigabyte site and ran it, getting the following error message: Incompatible hardware. This software is not supported on this chipset. Please select 'Yes' to view the Readme file for a list of supported products. Refer to Section 2 titled 'System Requirements.' Checking System Requirements in the Readme file, it states that I must have a P4 processor and an "Intel 82801ER I/O controller." I also tried the v3.5 driver (for XP only) with the same result. What am I missing here? Is the "On-chip SATA" the same as the "Intel 82801ER I/O controller"? The SATA drive is expected on Monday or Tuesday and I'd like to have everything ready to install before that time. -- |
