Compaq Presario 5528 (built 1995) other-unknown devices
Compaq Presario 5528
Pentium 75 MHz Originally Win95 upgraded to Win98 Now is Win98 Second Edition 2222 This machine seems to function ok with one exception There is a double short beep on startup possibly from a BIOS error and Win98SE keeps trying to install drivers for an OTHER/UNKNOWN DEVICE there are two devices indicated by Win98se Local_Machine\Enumerator\BIOS\*CPQA0EA Local_Machine\Enumerator\BIOS\*CPQA0E9 This means to me there is something or other relating to COMPAQ at device addresses A0EA and A0E9 I can not find out by any means I know what device this may be and what driver to use. Someone out there must know and i ask for your help. Everything that originally came with this machine seems present and accounted for. The machine runs fine except windows indicates those two unknown devices ?? Help is appreciated in identifying these devices. Please do not tell me to try these ID programs because you need an internet connection and this Presario 5528 machine does not connect to the internet yet. Getting an ISA HP j7523a LAN card to work is another topic of discussion. Regards; DS |

Compaq Presario 5528 (built 1995) other-unknown devices
The Solution to this problem was found in a program named
sp1335.exe which creates two floppy discs with the necessary drivers for a hardware thing called MPEG whatever. The device seems obsolete but at least you can make the Unknown devices go away by installing the two MPEG devices which seem built into the Motherboard of this Compaq Presario 5528. For solving this OTHER UNKNOWN DEVICES problem you only need floppy one of two. You run setup.exe program on disc one then by one means or another you need to run the install new hardware wizard under the control panel to find the whatever. Cheers and please throw me a good ol' Irish wake when I die; that is of course, if anyone is still alive to do so.
