Intel 875PBZ mobo - Ram & Prescott question
Going to be building my own PC for the first time, looking at the 875PBZ motherboard as I won't be doing any overclocking. I've heard that the Corsair XMS ram has 'timing' issues and lots of the stock fails memory tests, unknown what that means. I want to get (2) 512mb chips (PC3200 DDR400) of ram in a twin pack I guess. What do you all recommend? Kingston Hyper-X? Also, I'm looking at NewEgg and I see two similar but different model number twin packs: Kingston HyperX Series 184-pin 1GB Kit (2x512mb) DDR400 (PC3200) DDR RAM modules, KHX3200AK2/1G for $240 and Kingston HyperX Series 184-pin 1GB Kit (2x512mb) DDR400 (PC3200) DDR RAM modules, KHX3200K2/1G for $271 The only difference I see is the CAS Latency, first is (2-3-2-6-1T) and the 2nd is (2-2-2-6-1T) Whats the difference and whats recommended? Also, if I get the 875PBZ mobo will the prescott CPU's work on it.. The advanced HT looks to be hopeful. I'll be using the machine for gaming, and video editing with HT programs. TIA |

No, the only difference is in tRCD (RAS to CAS delay). The order is: CAS Latency RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD) RAS Precharge (tRP) Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS) Command Control A very good presention on this issue: http://www.corsairmicro.com/memory_b...707/index.html So the 222-Modules are faster. I would take these. But I can't tell you how much the performance increase is. Maybe just 2-3% for the $31. You decide, if it's worth. AF. |
