Default HP Designjet 130 repair in the NYC area

A friend has an HP Designjet 130 he'd like to get repaired. He says that a
sensor appears to have gone bad. The official HP repair facility wants to
make an on-site repair but advised that the cost would be prohibitive,
suggesting that he simply replace the printer. Considering how little use
this printer has had, that would be a shame. Is there a repair facility in
the NYC area that he could bring the printer to for more affordable repair?

The repair facility wants $895 for the onsite repair plus parts. They won't
allow dropoffs at their facility. He paid $1395 for the printer.

First, what do you/he consider affordable? Last time I looked at a local
authorized Canon repair center years ago to get an estimate to repair an
old BJC-710, that was $40. They would apply that towards the repair cost
if
you decide to go through with it. What's a replacement printer going to
cost? Yes, we've become a throwaway society in many aspects, but
unfortunately in some cases that is the cost effective thing to do.
