Default HP Laserjet4 poor quality output

I have a link to the photo on flickr. Sorry for the confusion, hope you
can view it now.

Thanks for the suggestions! I look forward to reading more of your
thoughts after you look at the pic.

Ato_Zee you questioned what labels I used, I use Avery for Laser. You
also mentioned that non-laser labels could contaminate the rollers with
a sticky adhesive. I am guilty of using a variety of photo paper in my
Laserjet because the toner is waterproof. Perhaps the heat in the
process is reacting with the chemicals on the photo paper and I have
created my own monster!lol

I really think it's the transfer roller. Which is impossible to clean
effectively, but relatively cheap and easy to replace. The manual should
tell you, but....

Get the little hooky brush that you'll find under the top flap. Remove
the toner cartridge.

Look down inside and you'll see the top edge of a greyish roller (left
to right), with a bright shiny shaft on the left hand end. Hook the hook
under that and pull it up. Slide out of other end.

You can try cleaning with a dry clot, but if there's grease/glue on it,
you'd had it. Get a new one from a spares supplier. I'm in the UK, or I
could send you a used one to try.

I think the other poster could be correct, it could be the transfer charge
roller.
Photo, or any other coated paper, paper should never be used in a laser
printer unless it is specifically marked as suitable for photocopers or laser
printers. The coating on such papers can become stuck to the fuser rollers
causing serious damage. The same rule applies to transparencies and labels.
You can easily checj the fuser for contamination -
Tutn the printer off and leave it off for at least 20 minutes, open the back
door, unclip the back door retaining strap, remove the two hex head screws that
hold the fuser to the baseplate. Lift and pull back the fuser, you will see the
rollers. There should not be too much contamination although some amounts of
toner buildup m,ay be present. Avoid touching the soft roller, it is easily
damaged.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I won't have time until after the
weekend to try them.
