Default how to repair monitor signal cable

a short while back, I asked this group's opinions about repairing monitor
signal cable that had a severed wire.

I've put all your inputs together and repaired the cable. Without all your
inputs, I would have probably been f&%$ed, i.e.: Using the original monitor
cable and a spare one, I begun splicing the wires. It wasn't long before I
realized that the wire colouring was different in both cables. The
permutations of connections was endless and I was ready to go buy a new
monitor Then I posted a message and you guys helped. Now my problem is
fixed.

bowgus @ rogers (is your name bowgus?)
Anthony Brohan
Plamen
Larry silkaitis
John Gill

....thanks!!!

And I've learned something in the process:

1- It's easier with a multimeter
2- Komodo (Secepter) ignored my emails when I requested a new monitor cable
(bot US and Canada offices), so I won't bother buying monitors from them in
the future.
3- "QUALITY" set of wire strippers cut this job down by probably a factor of
10.
(I used a knife and my teeth at first)
4- there are 4 wires (might be 6) that aren't used at all

blah

It's good to hear that you had success, but for future reference it's
usually a whole lot easier to just unplug the damaged cord where it
plugs into the pcb inside and plug in the new cable. I didn't see the
beginning of your other thread, perhaps this was impossible?

If the plug is odd, incompatible with any cables you can find you
might need to splice, but looks better when the spliced portion is
inside the monitor casing, only reusing the last inch or two of the
old cable.

Usually you can take each wire out of the plug separately to splice a new
one onto the metal latches that go in the plug. Time consuming - yes...but
it's the best way as far as signal and/or looks goes.

Unfortunately, it was impossible (or close to it). Sceptre (Komodo) ignored
my pleas to have a new cable purchased by me. I've tried multiple support
contacts and I got 0 replies. I had no choice but to splice

Good point. This is definitely a more esthetical approach
